Kornuth and Glaser Among Wynn Summer Classic Winners

The Wynn Summer Classic is done and dusted, and what a series it was. Dozens of events crowned their champions, including Andrew Moreno, who banked a cool $1.46 million. Two other superstars, Chance Kornuth and Benny Glaser, left the Wynn as champions and with suitcases full of prize money to boot. Here is what they won.

Kornuth Takes Down $3,500 No-Limit Hold’em Event

The $3,500 No-Limit Hold’em event was the last big tournament of the series, and plenty of big names turned out. Some 530 entrants created a $1,711,900 prize pool, and big names littered the payouts.

Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi fell in 38th for $9,712. Ryan Laplante (37th – $9,712), Kristen Bicknell (25th – $12,733), and Joey Weissman (12th – $25,593) also cashed. Tomas Soderstrom finished in tenth for $29,787; Soderstrom’s exit set the final table.

Colorado’s Kornuth had his sights set on the $353,891 top prize, but banking it was not an easy task. The final table was an eclectic mix of seasoned pros and keen amateurs, yet Kornuth shone.

Ezequiel Waigel and Dylan DeStefano were the first pair of players out of the door. They won $35,008 and $41,428 respectively. Justin Saliba, who recently won a WSOP 2021 Online bracelet, fell in seventh for $49,987.

Sixth place and $62,313 went to Kyle Carlston before Bobby Oboodi of New Jersey crashed out in fifth for $80,973, the tournament’s last five-figure payout.

Kornuth Excels Short-Handed

Kornuth is an incredible player who won the $1,600 MSPT Main Event at the Venetian last month for $412,066. He made it his goal to add another chunky score to his already impressive resume.

World Poker Tour crusher Brian Altman ran out of steam in fourth for a $110,075 score. Martin Zamani then fell by the wayside in third for $155,995. Zamani’s elimination left Kornuth heads-up with Avi Cohen. Kornuth got the job done and his hands on the $353,891 top prize, resigning Cohen to a $231,107 consolation prize.

Glaser Adds yet Another PLO Trophy to His Cabinet

British mixed game specialist Benny Glaser added another trophy to his collection when he triumphed in the $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event. Glaser has three WSOP bracelets on his arm, each coming in non-hold’em events.

Glaser was one of 146 entrants in the $3,000 buy-in PLO event, which had a $407,337 prize pool. More than a quarter of that sum is now on its way back to the United Kingdom.

Each of the nine players at the final table turned their $3,000 investment into at least five figures. Brian Batt, James Lenaghan, and Giuseppe Iadisernia were the first casualties. The latter has $1.7 million in winnings.

Jeremy Ausmus added to his $8.4 million winnings by claiming the $18,738 sixth-place prize. Jordan Spurlin, Adam Hendrix, and Stephen Moreschi crashed out, leaving Glaser heads-up against Aaron Wallace.

Glaser and Wallace locked horns in a one-on-one battle. Glaser was the favorite because of his PLO prowess. However, Wallace won a PLO bracelet at the 2015 WSOP, so was no pushover. Eventually, Glaser finished his final opponent and locked in the $102,000 top prize. Wallace headed back to California with a $72,705 runner-up prize.
