Nathan Gamble and Joon Kim Win WSOP Bracelets

Army veteran Nathan Gamble won the first non-Hold’em bracelet of the 2020 WSOP, adding to the bracelet he won three years ago. Gamble triumphed in the $600 PLO8 6-handed event, adding to the bracelet he won in PLO8 in 2017.

Gamble was in active service with the U.S. Army from 2013 to 2016, but he does different fighting these days. The man from North Richland, Texas, topped a field of 830 to win the $1,500 PLO8 event in 2017. He defeated 832-opponents this time around in the $600 PLO8. Gamble scooped $223,339 three years ago, now he has another $89,424 reasons to be cheerful.

Plenty of former bracelet winners and superstars reached the top 126 places and received some prize money. Kevin MacPhee, Maria Ho, and Jon Turner were among the first to cash. Six-time bracelet winners Daniel Negreanu and Layne Flack cashed, as did Mike Matusow who busted in 37th place.

Each of the six finalists turned their $600 into at least $14,484. Gamble found himself in the middle of the pack but still in the hunt for his second bracelet.

Simon “bagelbites” Lam was the final table’s first casualty. Lam crashed out at the hands of Shane “danish01” Daniels. Lam’s seat hadn’t even gone cold when Timothy “SSJTimmy” Batow joined the long list of bustees.

The final four became three when Tom “handsigalo” Schwartz. He committed his chips in a Ts-Kh-Qs board with As-Ah-6d-5c and Gamble called with Ac-Qd-Th-2s. Gamble’s two pair held and the player count reduced by one.

Gamble Busts Another; Claims Chip Lead

Gamble sent John “rainman3817” Esposito to the showers in third place to move to 10,100,000 chips. The chips went into the middle on a Td-8d-4c-9d board, Gamble with Qs-Th-5d-2d and Esposito the Kc-Qh-Jc-9h. Gamble’s flush sent the tournament heads-up.

Daniels trailed almost two-to-one and never managed to claw his way back into matters.

The final hand occurred during the 100,000/200,000 level. Daniel opened to 600,000 only for Gamble to make it 1,800,000. Daniels responded with a 3,368,864 push and Gamble called.

Gamble turned over As-Td-5s-3h to Daniels’ Kc-Kc-Qc-Qd. Gamble improved to a flush when the five community cards fell Js-7d-6s-5d-4d. This busted Daniel in second-place, a finish worth $55,282, leaving Gamble to win the $89,424 top prize and his second bracelet.

Kim Wins 2020 WSOP Event #7: $800 No-Limit Hold’em Knockout Deepstack

Moving the 2020 WSOP online definitely worked in Joon “jykpoker” Kim’s favor. He had 11 WSOP cashes to his name before this result, five stemming from WSOP.com. Kim now has 12 cashes in WSOP events and a shiny gold bracelet.

His victory came in the $800 No-Limit Hold’em Knockout Deepstack, which awarded $200 bounties for each opponent a player eliminated. Kim sent 15 foes to the rail, including runner-up Stephen “bunsamillion” McManus.

Victory weighed in at a cool $103,127 plus those $3,000 bounty payments. The prize money won crushed Kim’s previous combined tally of a modest $19,113.
