Kennedy Wins $600 KO As Negreanu Finishes Third

Anthony Kennedy denied Daniel Negreanu his seventh WSOP bracelet

Daniel Negreanu came agonizingly close to winning his seventh World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet this week when he finished third in Event #22: $600 NLH Knockout. Negreanu ultimately fell in third place, leaving Anthony “lastbullet” Kennedy to bank some poker gold.

Some 612 players bought into this tournament, which was a freezeout with no re-entries. The likes of Ryan “Adopt_aDoggo” Leng, Ryan “BitC0in” Riess, and Jason “justanenigma” Wheeler were among the starters. Wheeler busted in 10th place to set the final table.

All eyes were on Negreanu as he mounted a charge for his seventh WSOP bracelet.

A short-stacked Jonathan “shvszn” Bolton busted at the hands of Michael “PIEROGI” Ziemba to reduce the player count by one. Jeff “NedrudRelyt” Madsen followed suit, his 9d-9s being no match for Negreanu’s Td-Th.

Ziemba fell in seventh after losing to Paul “rungood27” Scaturro. All the chips went into the middle on the 7h-6s-Ah flop. Ziemba held As-Kc for top pair, but Scaturro held 7s-7d for a set.

Kennedy claimed his first scalp of the final table, that of Matthew “BraceletHUNT” Hunt. Hunt open-shoved for 17.5 big blinds from the button with Qh-Jh. Kennedy looked him up with Ad-Td, and won when the five community cards ran 5s-6h-Ac-4h-3c.

Negreanu sent Ryan “hagzzz021” Hagerty home in fifth place for $9,958, the last four-figure prize of the evening. Negreanu called Hagerty’s 10 big blind shove with Ac-Jh, and found himself against Kh-9h. Jacks on the turn and river won the hand for Negreanu, and sent the recent bracelet winner Hagerty to the showers.

Kennedy Takes Control

Kennedy was in the envious position of chip leader going into four-handed play. Those four became three when Scaturro’s Jd-Tc failed to get there against the ace-king of Ryan “badbeatbill Basile.

Heads-up was set when negreanu fell in third. The last of Negreanu’s chips went in on the turn of the 4s-Qc-4c-2s-Kh board. The six-time bracelet winner held Qs-9h, but Kennedy turned over the dominating Ac-Qh.

That hand gave Kennedy a 7,776,127 to 4,463,873 chip lead over Basile. It did not take him long to hold all the chips in play.

Kennedy min-raised to 400,000 and was called. He made a continuation-bet of 400,000 on the Jd-3h-5d flop, only for Basile the shove for 2,773,873. Kennedy called, and showed 7d-4d; Basile flipped over 6d-4h. The Qd turn completed Kennedy’s flush, rendering the Qs river inconsequential. Game over for Basile, and $46,796 plus a gold bracelet for Kennedy.
