Ferro Leads WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event

The $3,500 buy-in WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open has reached the business end of the tournament with only 87 of the 1,982 starters remaining in the hunt for the huge $975,240. A familiar name is the chip leader going into Day 2, reigning WPT Player of the Year Jacob Ferro.

Some 535 players navigated their way to Day 2 of the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event. However, only 248 players received a share of the guarantee-busting $6,342,400 prize pool. The money bubble burst during the 16th level of the tournament, meaning 4,000/8,000/8,000a blinds. Almog Biton was all-in for 77,000 chips from the small blind against Armand Figueroa in early position. Biton showed Kh-Ks and was against As-Ts. Biton looked set for a double-up especially when the flop fell 7s-7h-2c. However, the Ah turn put him behind and left him drawing to two outs. Neither arrived as the 9h landed on the river.

Dozens of elite poker stars cashed on Day 2 of the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event. Nick Yunis, Darryll Fish, Ali Imsirovic, and Chris Moorman all saw a return on their investment. As did the likes of Erik Seidel, Brock Wilson, and Baltimore Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell.

$975,240 Awaits the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Champion

Only 87 players remain in contention for the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open title. Each is guaranteed $10,215 for their efforts but each has an eye on the $975,240 top prize.

Ferro is the man to catch going into Day 3 of this massive tournament. Ferro has live results dating back to 2008 but enjoyed his breakout year in 2021. He won $1,050,158 of his $1,248,109 lifetime winnings last year.

The man from Syracuse, New York, won a career-best $573,605 for a runner-up finishing the WPT Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open in November 2021. His impressive results on the WPT circuit saw him crowned the WPT Player of the Year.

Ferro started Day 2 in the top 50 in chips and built steadily throughout proceedings. He busted Gueorgui Gantchev in 121st place during Level 19, which saw Ferro’s stack eclipse two million chips. He bagged up 2,235,000 chips at the close of play.

Pennsylvania’s Cherish Andrews returns to the action second in chips with a 2,200,000 stack. Andrews endured a rollercoaster of a day with her stack size fluctuating wildly. However, she went on a heater during the last two levels of the night to put herself back in contention.

Host Of Stars Return For Day 3

The plan for Day 3 is to whittle the field down to a more manageable 16. There are some incredible players attempting to become the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open champion.

Recent WSOP bracelet winner Jeremy Ausmus (2,105,000) and former WPT champion James Carroll (2,030,000) sit down with top-ten stacks. Omar Lakhdari (1,415,000), Shannon Shorr (1,260,000), Michael Gathy (1,140,000), and Anton Wigg (985,000) are also serious contenders for the title.

None of the players who reach Day 3’s conclusion will walk away with less than $49,825. In addition, reaching eighth-place of better locks in a six-figure score. Day 3 ends when only 16 players remain, with Day 4 scheduled for January 25. The Day 4 players battle it out until only the official six-handed final table remains. Will Ferro be at that final table?
