Nick Binger won his first WSOP bracelet back in 2011. Binger won the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo event that day and netted $397,073, which is still his largest score. Binger got his hands on his second bracelet on July 24, 2020, by winning the $400 No-Limit Hold’em 8-Handed online event. This result saw Binger walk away with $133,413.
A massive field of 2,408 entries competed for a share of the $866,880 prize pool and Binger collected the lion’s share. It’s great to see Binger back in action because he’d taken a back-seat recently. Binger used to be a prolific player but only cashed three times since 2013. What a way this was to mark his return.
Binger Gets Off To A Flying Start
The eight-handed final table started with Binger holding a narrow chip lead. He extended his lead when he sent Christian “CalcFather” Calcano to the rail in eighth place. Calcano pushed his short stack into the middle with Ac-9c and lost to Binger’s 8s-8s.
High stakes cash game specialist Matt “Berkey11_S4Y” Berkey busted in seventh. Berkey three-bet all-in with Ad-Ts and lost to Philip “eric_shun” Beesley’s Kh-Qd.
Ryan “Adopt_aDogg0” Leng busted Norman “abnormality” Michalek in sixth. Leng’s Qc-3h prevailed against Ah-Tc courtesy of a 2d-5c-6s-5d-3d board.
Leng soared into the lead after helping himself to Mark “bansman” Bansemar’s stack. The action folded to Leng in the small blind and he raised all-in with Jh-3h. Bansemar called off his 7.7 big blind short stack with pocket sevens. Bansemar looked set for a double until the jack of spades appeared on the river.
Waldron Sent Home by Binger
Binger got back into the action by sending Ian “aulululululu” Waldron to the showers in fourth. Waldron was down to five big blinds and he stuck these in the middle with Kd-9h. Binger called from the big blind with Th-7h and won when he spiked a flush on the river.
Beesley busted in third place, at the hands of Leng, to send the tournament into the heads-up stage. Everything pointed towards a Leng victory as he held a 28,698,098 to 7,421,902 chip lead, but Binger had other ideas.
A key hand saw Binger double his stack with Qc-Tc versus Ax-9x. That gave Binger a substantial lead and put victory within touching distance.
The final hand took place at the 300,000/600,000/75,000a level. Binger set Leng all-in for his last 7,171,322 chips and Leng called. It was 9c-9d for Leng and Kh-8s for Binger. The 2d-Kd-Qd flop gave Binger top pair but Leng a diamond flush draw. No more diamonds arrived as the turn and river came 4s and 7s to hand Binger the title.
