Two more poker players became World Series of Poker (WSOP) champions this weekend, including Allen “Acnyc718” Chang. Chang won the largest prize of the series so far, one weighing in at $161,286.
Field sizes continue to impress, especially when you consider only people in Nevada and New Jersey can play. The event Chang won saw 828-unique players make 351 rebuys for a combined field of 1,179. These players created a $530,550 prize pool shared among the top 126 finishers. The $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em event is the biggest completed so far.
Shawn “shades927” Stroke burst the money bubble, which paved the way for some poker stars to cash. These included Sorel “Lovemy3kids” Mizzi, Katie “katelin” Lindsay, Aaron “FrankDx” Massey, and Ryan “Protential” Laplante.
Chang and the remaining eight players locked up $11,196 when they reached the final table. It didn’t take long for someone to claim that sum.
“iseefoodtuna” opened to 120,000 and called when Quintin “AA_QTiP_KK” Trammell three-bet all-in for 699,132. It was one of poker’s infamous coinflips: Td-Ts versus Kh-Qs. Neither player improved their hand and Trammell fell in ninth-place.
Chang sent “charliefrog” to the rail when his Qs-Js came from behind to beat As-Jh. He collected $14,603. John “Slapshot1085” Forlenza and Alex “ShadowFiend1” Condon crashed and burned to leave five players in the hunt for the bracelet.
Chang Approaches 10 Million Chips
Those five became four when “married” felt Chang’s wrath. Married pushed all-in for 12 big blinds with pocket deuces. Chang snap-called in the big blind with pocket kings. The rest, as they say, is history.
That left Chang with 9,900,000 chips and he had one hand on the bracelet. The bracelet drew even closer when iseefoodtuna lost with ace-deuce versus Philip “tomte” Yeh’s aces.
Chang sent the tournament into the heads-up stage when he busted Felipe “McBain” Leme home in third. Leme committed his stack on the turn with a pair and a flush draw. Chang’s top pair top kicker held and he went into heads-up with a 12,216,756 to 4,863,244 chip lead.
Yeh clawed his way back into contention before pushing into a two-to-one lead. Chang pushed back in front and Yeh was down to only 2,900,000 at the final hand.
That 2,900,000 went into the middle preflop with 8c-6c and Chang called with Qh-Js. A jack on the flop was enough for Chang to become a WSOP bracelet winner.
