PokerStars Signs Kalidou Sow as Poker Ambassador

French poker player Kalidou Sow

PokerStars signed French card player Kalidou Sow as the latest member of Team PokerStars. Kalidou Sow’s meteoric rise makes him a natural poker ambassador for the world No. 1 online poker site. His poker skill coupled with competitive streak makes Sow a force at the poker table.

Above all, Kalidou Sow’s people skills make him a valuable Team PokerStars member. Few poker ambassadors boast the back story that Kalidou Sow has. Sow began life as a top basketball prospect in his native France, but a dangerous car wreck ended those dreams. That did not stop Kalidou’s ambitions, though.

Instead, he built a successful VIP car rental business, though he didn’t stop there. Sow launched a renewable energy business, then retired to pursue a life in poker.

Kalidou Sow’s poker career includes a string of successes. Casual poker fans might assume he burst on the scene in 2017, but Sow built his skill and experience steadily from 2013 to 2017. The past 18 months dazzled many followers.

Kalidou Sow Biography

Sow became a professional poker player in 2013 and collected 56 money finishes since turning pro. He’s the 32nd all-time money winner in French poker history already. That despite having only 3 career finishes in the 6-digit range. Though he built a solid resume in his first four years of competition, Mr. Sow’s win at the 2017 European Poker Tour Prague Main Event solidified his reputation.

He followed that $795,456 win with 1st place in the PokerStars Festival London Main Event in January 2018. Not long after, Kalidou Sow won the 2018 Winamax Poker Tour High Roller Event.

Since then, Sow attained rising star status in the professional card player circuit. In the 13 months since, Sow’s added another 14 finishes in the money. Those winning events included stops on the European Poker Tour, WPT Deepstacks events, WSOP Circuit events, and the PokerStars Caribbena Adventure.

PokerStars Signs Kalidou Sow

When asked his thoughts on signing as a PokerStars poker ambassador, Kalidou Sow declared, “I’m living the dream.”

After his basketball career became impossible, Sow said he channeled his competitive streak in another direction. He told PokerStars fans, “My competitiveness has always pushed me to look for opportunities. 2018 was a great year and I am looking forward to what 2019 brings wearing the PokerStars patch.”

Hall of Fame poker pro and longtime Team PokerStars member Daniel Negreanu expressed his excitement about the Kalidou Sow signing.

Daniel Negreanu: “I’m a Fan!”

Negreanu told Poker News Daily, “I absolutely love the addition of Kalidou Sow to the team! His backstory captivated me when he won his Platinum Pass after winning back to back events.”

“His life story is very inspiring and he is easy to root for. I’m a fan!”

Eric Hollreiser: Sow is “Friendly, Approachable”

PokerStars Director of Poker Marketing Eric Hollreiser said Sow is the perfect Team PokerStars member. Hollreiser added, “Kalidou embodies what the game is all about with his friendly, approachable demeanor, his thoughtful interaction with his opponents at the poker table, and a level of cool you don’t see every day.”

Given the remarks, the newest poker ambassador looks like a public relations coup for PokerStars. Fans respond to approachable pro players, so a player who ‘Get It’ should be a big hit.

Hollreiser said PokerStars has had its eye on Kalidou Sow for months. He added, “The buzz around him continued long after his initial Platinum Pass win and we’re excited to see where his journey will take him as we welcome him as an ambassador for PokerStars.”
