Joyner and Weissman Chop Latest $1M Gtd Event at the Wynn
Will Joyner and Joey Weissman chopped the latest $1 million guaranteed event, part of the Wynn Spring Classic series. The talented pair shared $473,278, with Joyner becoming the tournament’s champion.
The $1,600 buy-in event saw a superb turnout of 1,251 entrants. Those entrants created a $1,820,205 prize pool, much more than the advertised $1 million guaranteed. It is the second time in a week the Wynn has smashed a $1 million guaranteed prize pool. Sung Joo Hyun scooped $323,409 when he won a $3,500 buy-in event only last week.
Only the top 135 finishers won a slice of this prize pool. Many established professionals navigated their way into the money place, including Nick Schulman, Darren Rabinowitz, and Shannon Shorr. Justin Young, the legendary David Oppenheim, and Jeremy Ausmus also cashed, the latter popping the final table bubble.
Joyner On Course For a Career-Best Cash
Will Joyner had 18 recorded live cashes to his name before this tournament. His third cash weighed in at $90,112, his reward for winning a $365 WSOPC Tulsa side event. Joyner will be the first to admit the rest of his career has not been as glistening. Finishing fourth or better would see Joyner enjoy a new career-best. That was the first goal.
The United Kingdom’s Harry Ross was the first of eight finalists to fall by the wayside. Ross collected $34,906, taking his career total to almost $300,000.
Darian Rios Pavon of Venezuela was the next player out of the door. His seventh-place finish resulted in another $42,059 heading to his bank account.
Sixth-place and $52,380 went to Wagner Wysotchanski. The Florida resident recorded his sixth cash and second final table of 2021. That is pretty good going considering all the restrictions right now.
Joyner locked up a new career-best when Maziar Keshavarzi crashed out in fifth-place. There is something about tournaments in March that Keshavarzi loves. He won $62,784 in March 2020 and netted his record $75,675 in March 2014. Now he has another $67,178 to brag about.
The last five-figure prize of the tournament went to Kenny Huynh, the fifth-place finisher. The $90,877 Huynh won is his largest-ever live score. However, it falls short of the $133,857 he collected when he won an online WSOP bracelet this summer.
Another Career Highlight; Joyner Strikes a Deal
Daniel Moran of the United Kingdom had live cashes totaling only $2,686 before this event. Now he has $131,060 thanks to claiming the $128,374 third-place prize. Moran’s demise left Joyner heads-up against seasoned pro Joey Weissman in a battle for the lion’s share of the prize pool.
Weissman, a WSOP bracelet winner, is vastly more experienced than Joyner, which is probably why Joyner was keen to strike a deal. That deal saw Weissman finish second and bank $230,090. Only Weissman’s $694,609 prize for winning his bracelet is worth more than this payout.
Joyner became the tournament’s champion and walked away with $243,188, more than doubling all his previous results combined.
