Steve Priess is the Head of Poker Operations at GGPoker. Breaking the record delighted him and his team.

“This Guinness World Records title was on our radar from the very beginning. Players and fans of poker expect nothing less than record-breaking prizes when it comes to the World Series of Poker, and GGPoker delivered.”

WSOP Director Ty Stewart is another person delighted with the GGPoker WSOP Online Main Event performance.

“Breaking a Guinness World Records title shows what happens when you combine GGPoker’s amazing platform with the World Series of Poker brand. This will be a tough record to beat.”

Daniel Negreanu Streams The World Record Announcement

GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu broke the news of the world record via a special stream. Official Adjudicator for Guinness World Records Michael Empric joined Negreanu via a video feed.

“At Guinness World Records, we are always looking for new, incredible, record-breaking achievements and we have received your application for the largest prize pool for an online poker tournament. We have reviewed the evidence, gone through all of the details, and today, I can announce that GGPoker with a measurement of $27,559,500 has shattered the Guinness World Records title. Congratulations, Daniel!”

Negreanu thanks everyone who played in the GGPoker WSOP Online Main Event. He said breaking the record is an honor that makes him proud.

The WSOP Online Main Event smashed the record and took partypoker’s crown. partypoker held the record for online poker’s biggest MTT prize pool since 2018. Its MILLIONS Online tournaments were nothing short of huge.

The 2018 MILLIONS Online had a $21,385,000 prize pool, which obliterated the previous record. 2019 saw a $21,090,000 prize pool created.

WSOP’s Ty Stewart was correct when he stated the new record will take some beating. There is a lot of uncertainty in the world right now thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Online poker operators are still putting on big guaranteed tournaments, but it’s unlikely anyone guaranteed $20-25 million for the foreseeable future.

It would be brilliant if the online poker world opens up to everyone in the United States. Combining the U.S. players with the rest of the world would see some gargantuan prize pools. It would be like the good old days before the UIGEA in 2006. Perhaps it will happen if Joe Biden wins the Presidential race?
