Artur Martirosian Hits SHRB Form At The Right Time

Artur Martirosian hit form at the right time and he now has a $102,000 SHRB Main Event seat for free

Artur Martirosian is arguably the best poker player you’ve never heard of. The Russian pro has seemingly come from nowhere to crush the highest stakes tournaments in the world. He has won millions in the live and online poker arenas and will win countless more.

Martirosian won himself a free ticket to the Super High Roller Bowl Online on May 31. The ticket is worth a cool $102,000 and gives Martirosian the chance to win a slice of a $3 million guaranteed prize pool.

That ticket almost went elsewhere. Players in Super High Roller Bowl events at partypoker won points when they reached the money. Swedish online poker legend Viktor Blom looked to be running away with proceedings until the final day’s action.

Blom won an unprecedented three SHRB events and cashed in four others. Those impressive performances banked Blom $1,552,025 in winnings and 1,114 leaderboard points. Martirosian was more than 300-points behind Blom with one day to go. The Russian never gave up, in fact he did the complete opposite and brought his A-game to the tables.

It wasn’t going to be easy for Martirosian but becoming a legendary figure never is. He helped his chances of glory with a runner-up finish in a $10,300 event for $150,000. Blom pushed back in front with his third victory of the series, however.

The Russian star put together three cashes in his final f tournaments to clinch the title.

Martirosian finished second to Stephen Chidwick in a $25,500 buy-in event for $275,141 and 165-points. That second-place should have been a first, but his queens lost to king-five.

The next tournament saw him draw a blank, but he finished 10th in his next event. He then finished second again in a $25,500 event for $352,000 and 211-points. This propelled him to the top of the leaderboard, but Blom still has a chance of re-stealing the lead. Blom’s hopes were dashed when he failed to cash in the last event while Martirosian finished third.

Martirosian was gracious after his victory although he wasn’t happy with any of his heads-up losses. He said to the partypoker blog:

“I am very happy, I spent lot of effort, time and emotions during this leaderboard race, but it all ended perfectly. Yes, I was not very lucky in heads-ups and every heads-up loss upset me, but everything was going great before that, so it would be ridiculous to complain. This is an excellent result, I plan to continue to play all these series and spend even more time working on a game outside the series.”
